My posts are "Performing"?
Every week, I get an email a few days after posting.
“Here’s how your post has performed since it was published”.
Interesting…
I didn’t know my posts were performing!
In this email report, I get the number of likes, the number of new subscribers and so on.
It is quite an analogy of how we function in life, isn’t it?
In my view, there are some serious flaws to seeing my posts, and Life, this way.
For example, my last post “Speaking Life Into Yourself”, got 5 likes.
Attempting (and it’s a failed attempt I might add) to measure a post’s performance by the number of likes is nonsense!
Let me explain….
This is just some of what CANNOT be measured:
How did the post affect those 5 people, change their world for a moment or forever, and every single person they interact with from that point on? How did it affect my relationship with them?
Maybe it did.Maybe it didn’t.
If it did, and how it did … we will never know! How did the other readers, who did not put a “like”, feel when reading the post, and maybe feel forever?
Is there one of these people who will, one day, tell themselves “I love you” remembering that post?
How will that change their life and all our lives indirectly?
We will never know! How was I affected by having the space and support to write the post. And what will that lead to in my life? I don’t know exactly.
It not measurable and so be it!
We have been so trained to measure everything, including ourselves, by numbers but so many things (if not everything) simply cannot be measured.
And these immeasurable things are, in my view, what truly matter!
Fortunately, I have arrived to a point where I am not guided by the number of likes (although it gives me such joy knowing that something resonated with someone, even one person. I also love to read other peoples’ comments and views, and always appreciate any support I get! ).
If I were easily influenced by this attempt to measure my posts by likes, I would likely stop posting, or look for a strategy to get more likes and lose myself in the doing.
Please don’t get me wrong; I am not against the idea of anyone sharing or marketing their work.
That’s not the point.
This post is simply my statement about the fact that we cannot measure the results of everything we do, and understanding this is actually very freeing!
We become free to act from within, from the clarity of the moment, without knowing or caring about the outcome.
Obviously, this post is not about Substack, which I really like! The performance measurement concept is everywhere.
So, the next time someone, or you, attempt to measure something or yourself, consider taking a moment to imagine what it would be like to simply let that go … and see what that feels like.
I am working on my next book which partly touch upon these topics.
I welcome ideas and everyone’s thoughts on this topic!
Wishing you a wonderful Sunday,
Sandy 🌹

Thank you for those that attended the online Courage Circle this week as we discussed the topic of Gratitude. I learn so much from our conversations!
Thank you to Isabelle from Meta1111 for the space you maintain so people can rent it for their work. I look forward to doing an in person event there in 2026.

Love this...well said: "And these immeasurable things are, in my view, what truly matter!" <3
Great topic to dig into! I wholeheartedly agree, numbers can't show true impact. And we don't have the capacity to really know the true impact of how we are and what we do on the bigger picture, beyond place and time.
Glad you are the way you are <3
