A Step is Movement
I have a friend who I know understands the Power of small actions.
I think it’s actually misleading to call them “small”.
Especially when it’s the FIRST STEP.
Think about something that is on your mind:
1. Maybe you feel you need an exit plan given the turmoil in your living area or life.
Maybe you’d really like to get in better physical shape.
Maybe you have a dream to spend winters elsewhere.
Maybe you crave to paint or start a business.
Maybe you dream of growing your own food.
Maybe you are ready to face the traumas of your past.
Now I want to talk about the SPACE between all these ideas and them becoming reality.
In this SPACE, we will find:
Second guessing ourselves in a myriad of ways
Many beliefs about what is and what isn’t possible
A ton of conditioning about how we are supposed to live our lives
Beliefs about what we are able and not able to do
Inner critic challenging the ideas
An avalanche of fears
Beliefs about what we deserve or inner shaming,
and so much more!!!
And now…
You take ONE STEP.
Maybe you look up the cost of traveling to your favorite place. Maybe you look up physical training coaches in the area. Maybe you just start to paint a card for someone’s birthday. Maybe you make a list of potential support to make a move.
This ONE STEP is NOT A SMALL STEP!
- It moves something from “an idea” to reality. It is literally a huge leap to the physical world!
- It is a movement BEYOND all the SPACE of doubt.
-It challenges at least some of the fears.
- It is a change of direction, a 180 degree turn. That’s not small. It’s a new direction, the beginning of something brand new!
- It moves us out mentally from helpless to hopeful and powerful.
- It gets the ball rolling. From inertia to movement.
- It builds our courage muscles which becomes stronger and stronger the more we do this.
And in my experience, movement perpetuates movement. The power of momentum is just incredible!
The energy of moving in the “right” direction, even if it is challenging and at times incredibly frustrating, is unstoppable! We start to feel alive and an active participant in our lives.
So take ONE step today!
That’s the hardest and the most powerful one.
Those of us who have seen a toddler taking its first step (or remember our own) know that once we take that first step…. there’s no going back.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Yes, the first step is the hardest but so worth taking it. I love “movement perpetuates movement”, so true. Thanks for sharing your beautiful, inspirational views Sandy.
